About MYCC

The Muslim Youth Community Center (MY Community Center) is a 501c3, non-profit organization registered in the State of NJ. Our mission is to serve local communities by providing a venue for communal programs that promote Muslim values to people of all ages, faiths, and backgrounds. MY Community Center’s vision is to establish full-fledged community centers with the most state-of-the-art facilities which include basketball courts, swimming pools, separate work-out areas for men and women, daycare, outdoor fields (soccer, baseball, football), professional kitchen, seminar room/auditorium, banquet halls and much, much more. These facilities will first be erected in NJ and then franchised throughout the United States.

MY Community Center has identified 5 major challenges that exist for the Muslims living in America. MY Community Center serves as the conduit to bridge all of these gaps and its purpose is to develop a strong, healthy community of Muslims that weaves seamlessly into the American fabric while still maintaining its sacred values.

AGE GAP
Our generation are the children of immigrant parents. Between the two generation exists a culture, language, and even, understanding gap. A few years from now, the masjids will be run by the youth of today, and if this generation doesn’t identify with the masjids, our masjids will be nothing more than hollow structures. MY Community Center offers a whole suite of services and programs that can be enjoyed by the older generation as well as the younger generation, bringing them together not only for spiritual, but also for recreational purposes.

ETHNICITY GAP
So many of our masajid are geographically close to one another, but operate as silos. They often become branded as the “Pakistani masjid” or “Arab masjid” or “African American masjid”. MY Community Center knocks down these subtle, yet very real, racial barriers and allows the communities to unite as one.

RELIGIOSITY GAP
The masajid have long been known as spiritual centers- a place for worship and nothing more. Unfortunately, 90% of the Muslims in America do not regularly attend prayers or programs at the masjid. What better way than to use sports, recreation, humanitarian services, civic engagement etc. to bring people together- regardless of where they may lie on the religiosity spectrum.

GENDER ACCOMMODATION GAP
For far too long, our currently existing institutions have failed to address the needs of our sisters. From sports to cooking classes, to pre- and post-natal counseling, our sisters will finally have services dedicated to them and allow them to stay active in an environment built around the Islamic principle of modesty.

MUSLIM / NON-MUSLIM GAP
MY Community Center welcomes people of all faiths and backgrounds. For far too long, Islam has been seen as “the other religion” when in fact, Muslims have been here going as far back as the 1400s when Christopher Columbus landed on the shores of the Americas. MY Community Center extends an open invitation to people of all creeds to come enjoy our services and programs and allows the Muslims to give back to their communities.
